Sky Drama

These photos were all taken on the same day on opposite sides of the horizon throughout a period of about an hour or so. I kept having to pull into slowly emptying school parking lots as the show began. In teaching my teens to drive I am tying to model safe behavior by not answering my cell phone if it rings and absolutely never texting while driving. Now I have to fight off the urge to snap photos as well. It is getting dark so early. :( . Between the hours of 3 and 6 I am on the road as the sun sinks low and fast and darkness overwhelms. "It's strange how the night moves, with autumn closing in".

It's wordless wednesday.

Tones on Tuesday

I have been practicing my portrait photography on seniors. Not senior citizens. :) Although that reminds me that I need to go visit my grandmother today. Hmm, maybe I will bring my camera along. Anyways, a few of my daughters friends have been kind enough to pose for me. I took many lovely photographs of Lindsey, but the above one was not a fav of theirs. I however love it. I like the ethereal quality the monotone edit gives it and how angelic she looks.

Photo Art Friday!!

I am so excited to find this "new to me" link up. Digitally enhancing photographs brings a whole new creative dimension to photography. This is a favorite photo of mine taken over the Summer of Gabriel and his younger cousin.

I am Thankful....

...for this little guy among others. Yesterday it was only a half day of school before the holiday and he was a little under the weather. As he was waking up and beginning to get ready for school I realized that he could hardly hear anything I was saying. Major head congestion and random comments about pain in his ear. I thought what the hey he could take a sick day from school and then I could decide if we needed to call the Dr. before the holiday weekend began. Gabe is a very social person, but so loves an opportunity to miss a day of school. When you have four kids it is rare to be home alone with just one. For this reason I sometimes secretly enjoy "sick" days. He was quite pleased and surprised of my offer. Usually he is trying to rustle up a few symptoms to get a day off. He had chicken noodle soup for breakfast and then I spent the morning talking loudly and repeating myself, telling him to turn the T.V. down over and over, and stopping him from drinking eggnog( probably the worse this to drink when your congested, right??). His hearing was really off! I was able to convince him to pose for a quick portrait too. :)
Still no signs of an infection though, so I am hoping the over the counter decongestant is working. Right now he is off at the high school football game with his Dad, brothers and friends.

I Heart Faces

Autumn Splendor
I am trying to take my daughter's senior photos. Not the yearbook shot, but the casual photo shoot that the industry markets to parents of high school seniors. It is a little pricey to have it done professionally. I've tried twice now and it is not as simple as it looks. My daughter is certainly photogenic, but not a confident poser. It takes about 50 frames to loosen her up! Finally I think we've perfected the tilt your head to the right shot. Lol. I think she's a beauty, now to convince her.

Easy Place Mat Pillow

I'm sure I have not rediscovered the wheel here, but I have been making these for awhile. I turn an inexpensive fancy place mat into a throw pillow. I usually head to Pier I and first browse the pillow section. I cannot believe what they are charging these days for small throw pillows. Even on clearance you can pay over $20. I then walk over to the kitchen section and take a look at the place mats. Place mats these days are gorgeous; little works of hand crafted art. Way to pretty to spill food on. The one I used for this pillow was $5.95 full price. I rarely pay full price for anything, often paying only 95 cents for these on clearance. But, I splurged. I thought the crewel work detail was worth it, and it was still only a fraction of what the finished throw pillows were going for. This is such and simple and satisfying little project. You take a seam ripper and gently pull apart a few inches of one end. It makes a perfect little pillow case that you then stuff with pillow stuffing. I often take an old pillow apart for this. Just stick the stuffing in and hand sew it up with tiny stitches, or fabric glue will work too. That's it!

I am linking with Primp at: http://micheleravendesigns.blogspot.com/. It's a Wednesday link party and I am a little late, but with no power for a week and all it is what it is. :) Not too late for a Saturday Nite Special though.

This and That

Just a few photos I snapped today. A little something to distract me from this endless week I am in (see my previous post). I am linking with : , the perfect spot for these mish mash of pictures. The dog is an in law of ours. Rocko. He is only 8 or 10 months old and nearly 100 lbs. Look at the size of that paw.

ARGHHHHH!!!!

Help! I feel like I am stuck in the movie Groundhog Day. We are on day 5 of no power! Finally after braving it out and being optimistic that there will soon be light, we have borrowed a battered old generator. And, it is better. We have internet, t.v. and a few dim lights. Things are looking up finally. Today was an all time low when I dragged several loads of laundry a short ride to the next town over, to my sister in laws. Their power has been back for two days now . (I am starting to secretly despise friends and family who have electricity.) I spent nearly four hours only to end up with two large loads of wet clean clothes. Their dryer sucks!! Silly me thinking I could somehow get a jump on the 12 plus loads I am behind. And that does not include snow pants and muddy jackets including the set of snow gear Donovan melted by the fireplace. I can honestly say this is the longest week of my life. I took these photos on Saturday as the snow began to fall in what would amount to a foot of snow in a feakish unprecedented early snow storm. I would swear it was two weeks ago.
