I'm sure I have not rediscovered the wheel here, but I have been making these for awhile. I turn an inexpensive fancy
place mat into a throw pillow. I usually head to Pier I and first browse the pillow section. I cannot believe what they are charging these days for small throw pillows. Even on clearance you can pay over $20. I then walk over to the kitchen section and take a look at the place mats. Place
mats these days are gorgeous; little works of hand crafted art. Way to pretty to spill food on. The one I used for this pillow was $5.95 full price. I rarely pay full price for anything, often paying only 95 cents for these on clearance. But, I splurged. I thought the crewel work detail was worth it, and it was still only a fraction of what the finished throw pillows were going for. This is such and simple and satisfying little project. You take a seam ripper and gently pull apart a few inches of one end. It makes a perfect little pillow case that you then stuff with pillow stuffing. I often take an old pillow apart for this. Just stick the stuffing in and hand sew it up with tiny stitches, or fabric glue will work too. That's it!

Simply lovely! I'm going to keep this in mind for Christmas throw pillow accents!
